Montpellier Estates has submitted a new plan for a 2 million sq ft mixed-use development for its flagship 10-acre site City One.

The investment and development major plans to build top class shared offices, residential and retail space, a hotel and casino at the site.

Though the site was allocated for the proposed Leeds arena two years ago, the Leeds City Council took a controversial step when it cancelled the procurement procedure in November 2008 and assumed the tasks of the arena developer on council-owned land at Claypit Lane.

Commenting on City One, Jan Fletcher, chairman of Montpellier Estates, said the site was highly appreciated by all and sundry and regarded as one of the best city centre development sites in The North. She said they had continued with their investments since the site has generated revenue even when Britain was badly hit by the economic recession. Fletcher also expressed hope that occupiers would soon show interest in the City One.

According to Fletcher, City One’s best feature was its proximity to strategic roads and the Leeds City station. She added that the objective of Montpellier was to design a magnificent entrance and skyline from the southern gateway of Leeds.

The Leeds City’s Council’s plans to regenerate the city will also get a boost with the development of City One since the site will link Holbeck and Beeston to the city centre.
