Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co (KKR) was established in the mid-seventies and to begin with the company’s specialty was in leveraged buyouts. More recently in the pursuit of making their acquisitions have less ecological impact, KKR have founded a novel proposal that has fundamentally changed the way businesses and environmental activists operate. Green business procedures became a hot topic last year when Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co’s Henry Kravis and the the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) joined forces. Issues like hazardous emissions and unconscionable water consumption are high on their list of priorities.
Eco-efficiency (the phrase was initially advertised by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development WBCSD) is the procedure applied to achieve these goals, employing policies such as reducing the waste of resources, improving fuel economy through vehicle fleet maintenance and waste reduction. Even though the program was a colossal success, managment just did not realize how significant the consequences were until Ken Mehlman, the man responsible for the Green Portfolio Project, studied the numbers for the first year.
Much to everybody’s surprise, Ken discovered that practicing eco-efficiency not only cut down on environmental impact, but also increased the profitability of all their business organizations too. Nearly all of the business concerns associated with KKR and Ken Mehlman now apply eco-efficiency. And, with a current business portfolio with an estimated worth of eighty-six billion USD, you may be sure this was not a simple achievement.
The Green Portfolio project now includes new opportunities. For example, Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co got together with the Environmental Defense Fund’s Climate Corps Program an enterprise that instructs MBA students how to develop and start financially sound, environmentally friendly principles. More recently, Ken Mehlman has worked closely with KKR to produce a package of products that firms can utilize to quantify and manage resources. This type of data is critical as businesses may without much effort assess their day-to-day activities and identify how they can resolve any issues while simultaneously permitting staff to discover how green they are. Today’s business world has been revolutionized by the work of Henry Kravis, the KKC, and the Environmental Defense Fund. These fresh developments have set a benchmark for firms in every industry and illustrated that making profits need not entail the hefty price of damaging the environment.
